SEATTLE (AP) - Another tunnel boring project is scheduled to begin in June in Seattle.

Sound Transit officials held a dedication ceremony Monday to help launch a machine they call Brenda.

In will dig a 3.6-mile tunnel from the Northgate area to the light rail station at the University of Washington, near Husky Stadium.

KUOW reports (https://bit.ly/1fMj22s) Sound Transit’s machine is less than half the diameter of Bertha, the machine that has ground to a halt while trying to dig the Highway 99 tunnel under downtown Seattle.

Sound Transit officials are confident in Brenda. It’s already proven itself digging twin tunnels from Capitol Hill to downtown Seattle.

Another tunnel-boring machine is expected to start drilling a parallel Northgate tunnel in October.
