PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The University of Rhode Island has received a grant to pursue research with universities in the United Kingdom and Indonesia.

The grant of nearly $250,000 was announced Monday by the Global Innovation Initiative, a joint program of the U.S. and British governments to increase international collaboration in research on topics of global significance. It’s one of 23 such projects funded.

URI’s project has it collaborating with the University of Stirling and the Institut Pertanian Bogor. It will look at aquaculture and water quality in Indonesian lakes and reservoirs.

URI has partnerships with three colleges in Indonesia. The Indonesian government plans to send 25 Ministry of Affairs workers to URI in the fall to take classes in fisheries management and marine studies.
