CHICAGO (AP) - The faculty at the University of Illinois-Chicago has agreed to their first labor contract. The deal will give them a 6.75 percent raise and higher starting salaries for non-tenured instructors.

UIC United Faculty announced that its members had approved the deal Tuesday. The union said 98 percent of its members voted to approve the agreement. The union has almost 1,000 members.

The contract is retroactive for the last two years and extends through August 2015.

Lecturers will now have a minimum salary of $37,500 a year. That figure had been as low as $30,000.

The union and university administrators reached the deal earlier this month.
