MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Lodging businesses and local governments are hurrying to spread the word that beach tents are banned in many areas on the Grand Strand.
Everything from beach access signs and newsletters to fliers and refrigerator magnets are being used to let those visiting the beach know they should not bring beach tents.
Horry County now has a year-round ban on the large tents, The Sun News of Myrtle Beach (https://bit.ly/1isq1Dq ) reported. The tents are banned during the summer season in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach.
Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach are placing 400 news signs at beach access points letting visitors know about the new law. And 25,000 refrigerator magnets being distributed the businesses in North Myrtle Beach include information about the new law.
Officials say beaches have become so jammed with large tents that it makes it difficult for emergency vehicles to move along beach.
The 60 miles of beaches between Georgetown and the North Carolina state line that make up the Grand Strand are the heart of the state’s $18 billion tourism industry.
