Most planes use Jackson airport’s new landing path

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - Eighty percent of the planes landing at the Jackson Hole Airport are using a new route, more than officials expected.

The new route shifts descending planes farther from the Tetons, Jackson Lake and the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reported Monday (https://tinyurl.com/mpqq3yr) the new route reduces noise and the distraction of low-flying aircraft.

The Federal Aviation Administration approved the new voluntary path in March 2013.

Airport Director Ray Bishop says the new approach is more convenient, especially for pilots coming from the east.

The route shaves 14 miles and three or four minutes from the old path.

Park officials like the fact that planes don’t get as close to some of the park’s main attractions.
