AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine Gov. Paul LePage has signed three bond proposals for research and development, sending the measures to voters this November.
The $21 million in bonds approved by the governor is part of a $50 million borrowing package lawmakers passed as they wrapped up the session this month.
On Monday, LePage signed a $10 million bill that’s designed to support research for cancer cures. The bond would spur an $11 million match from the federal government.
LePage also signed a $3 million bond bill for the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory, a nonprofit biomedical research institution. Another would provide $8 million for a lab at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
Three other proposals await action. Among them is one to support financing programs that provide capital for small businesses.
