LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say Long Beach officers shot and killed a man who led sheriff’s deputies on a car chase after pulling out scissors during a struggle at a Target store in Compton.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Megan Zabel says the suspect exited his car wielding a large wooden stick after the pursuit Sunday. He ran from sheriff’s deputies and encountered Long Beach officers, who opened fire, striking him. The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/1tUBCyE ) the man died at a hospital. He has not been identified.

Sheriff’s officials say deputies were called after the man allegedly committed a crime at the Target store on South Alameda Street. He struggled with store security and deputies before running to his car and driving off.
