ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Demonstrators at the University of Georgia say a discussion with school officials about a policy that blocks immigrant students from enrolling in some of Georgia’s most competitive schools was fruitless.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1m3W1fc) nearly 100 students rallied on campus Monday to push for UGA president Jere Morehead to voice opposition to the policy.
Immigrant students who were brought to the country as children are able to attend smaller schools, but must pay out-of-state tuition and are ineligible for financial aid.
UGA officials say the university follows policies set by the state Board of Regents, and that Morehead will relay the students’ concerns to the board.
