HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Police say a 38-year-old Hattiesburg man died in the parking lot of an apartment complex after being shot at least once by the complex’s courtesy officer.

Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem tells The Hattiesburg American (https://hatne.ws/1tU3mne ) Oliver Griffin died at the scene Sunday night.

Police spokesman Lt. Jon Traxler said police received a call about 6:05 of gunshots and found Griffin in the parking lot.

Police took the courtesy officer into custody and were questioning him late Sunday night. Traxler did not release the name of the shooter, nor did he have any details of what led to the shooting.

He said the courtesy officer did not work for the Hattiesburg police.
