BOSTON (AP) - Attorney General Martha Coakley is disavowing a new super PAC-funded ad that takes aim at Republican candidate for governor Charlie Baker.
Coakley, who is running for the Democratic nomination for governor, said Monday that super PAC money should be kept out of Massachusetts.
The 30-second television ad - which began running over the weekend - criticizes the salary Baker earned while chief executive of the state’s second-largest insurer, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
Coakley said she hopes no super PAC spends unlimited secret money in Massachusetts regardless of which candidate they support.
The National Association of Government Employees Independent Expenditure PAC, which paid for the ad, is one of three independent expenditure political action committees formed last week in Massachusetts.
One of the other super PACs was formed by supporters of fellow Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Steven Grossman.
