ROGERS, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas U.S. Sen. John Boozman has been released from the hospital after undergoing unexpected heart surgery.
Boozman’s office says the Republican senator was released from Mercy Hospital in northwest Arkansas on Sunday night. Boozman went to a hospital April 22 after he suffered chest and shoulder pains. Doctors found Boozman had experienced an acute aortic dissection - or a tear in his aorta - and had to operate to replace his ascending aorta.
Boozman’s office says the senator is under doctor’s orders to rest as he regains his strength.
In a statement, Boozman says his thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the deadly tornado Sunday night in central Arkansas. Boozman says he’s receiving regular updates and that he will work with state and federal officials on relief efforts.
