ATLANTA (AP) - Two giant panda bears born and raised in Atlanta are headed for China.
Five-year-old male Xi Lan and three-year-old female Po will be moved on May 7 to China’s Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Both pandas have been independent from their mother for some time.
Atlanta Zoo Director of Veterinary Services Hayley Murphy says the China research base is staffed by some of the world’s foremost specialists on the giant panda.
Atlanta Zoo visitors can say goodbye to Xi Lan and Po on Sunday and on May 3 and 4. In addition to parents Lun Lun and Yang Yang, the zoo will still have twin nine-month-old pandas in its giant panda conservation center.
