Former GOP Sen. Rick Santorum said Sunday that Georgia’s so-called “guns everywhere bill” will deter criminals if they believe others around them may have guns.
“If we are a country where the criminal doesn’t know if someone has a gun or not, they’re going to think twice,” he said on “Face the Nation.” “I think people do analyze the situation and if they want to accomplish something, they want to kill a lot of people, they’re not going to go someplace where someone will shoot back.”
The Georgia law will allow people to carry a concealed gun in some bars, churches, schools and certain parts of airports.
“I don’t think this is going to do anything to encourage some bad guy to cause harm at the airport, but it’s going to create an opportunity where if something bad does happen at an airport, there’ll be someone there to stop it,” he said.
The former 2012 presidential contender said he will stay “very engaged” in the process and will make a decision on a 2016 run next year.
