NEW YORK (AP) - Brett Gardner and Yangervis Solarte are out of the New York Yankees’ lineup because of injuries.
Gardner is sitting out Sunday night against the Los Angeles Angels with a sore left foot after he was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning Saturday. Gardner finished the game, but was replaced in left field Sunday by Ichiro Suzuki.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi says Gardner feels better than he thought he would and could be available off the bench.
Solarte was supposed to start at second base but was scratched about 90 minutes before the scheduled first pitch because of a sore right shoulder. Regular starter Brian Roberts was inserted at second base, batting eighth.
Solarte has been a pleasant surprise in his rookie season, mostly at third base.
