NOVI SAD, Serbia (AP) - Vujadin Boskov, who coached Real Madrid, Roma, Sampdoria and many other top European clubs as well as the Yugoslavia national team, has died. He was 82.
Vojvodina Novi Sad, the club where Boskov started his playing career in 1946, said he died Sunday in the northern Serbian town. The cause of death was not disclosed.
A former Yugoslavia international as a player, Boskov is better known for a coaching career that spanned four decades. He captured the Spanish title with Real Madrid in the 1979-1980 season, having previously managed Feyenoord and Den Haag in the Dutch league.
He led Sampdoria to the club’s first Serie A title in 1991 and reached the European Cup final with the Italian team in 1992, losing 1-0 to Barcelona at Wembley.
