MEXICO CITY (AP) - Chivas failed to qualify for the Mexican playoffs after losing 1-0 to Monterrey on Sunday in the final round of the Clausura regular season.

With Chivas eliminated, Cruz Azul will face eighth-placed Leon in the quarterfinals, while Toluca will play Tijuana, Pumas take on Pachuca and Santos Laguna meet America.

The first matches of the home-and-away series are scheduled to be played over Wednesday and Thursday, with the return legs on Saturday and Sunday.

Chivas needed a victory to snatch the last playoff place from Leon, but Efrain Juarez headed in for Monterrey in the 84th minute.

In other Sunday games, Morelia lost 3-1 to Puebla when it needed a victory to make the playoffs.

On Saturday, Cruz Azul confirmed its first place with a 2-1 victory over Pumas and Veracruz drew 2-2 with Santos Laguna, while Pachuca claimed four goals in the last 15 minutes to defeat Queretaro 4-3 and Leon won 2-1 against Tijuana on Friday.
