CHICAGO (AP) - The leader of the Chicago’s Catholic faithful will celebrate a special Mass Sunday in honor of the two popes being declared saints.

Cardinal Francis George was unable to travel to Rome for Sunday’s canonizations of popes John Paul II and John XXIII because of his treatment for cancer.

But he will celebrate the special Mass at 5:15 p.m. Sunday at Chicago’s Holy Name Cathedral.

Other events include a vigil that started just after midnight Sunday morning at the Five Holy Martyrs Parish, which John Paul visited in 1979

The vigil was to include prayer, music, poems and a telecast of the canonization from Rome at 3 a.m.

A canonization pilgrimage will begin at Holy Trinity Polish Mission at 9:30 a.m. Sunday and continue toward St. Hyacinth Basilica in Chicago.
