EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Ryan Villopoto wrapped up his fourth straight AMA Supercross 450SX Class season title Saturday night, easily winning in front of 62,217 fans at MetLife Stadium.
Villopoto has three straight victories and six this season to push his career total to 40. The Kawasaki rider has a 61-point lead over KTM’s Ryan Dungey with only the season finale left next week in Las Vegas.
Suzuki’s James Stewart, second in the standings entering the event, withdrew because of an apparent left leg injury. He dropped the third in the standings, 72 points back.
Villopoto, from Poulsbo, Wash., also won a Toyota Tundra in the Toyota Triple Challenge as the top points earner in the third race in Anaheim, Calif., and the stops in Arlington, Texas, and East Rutherford.
Honda’s Eli Tomac was second, and Suzuki’s Josh Hill finished third.
Honda’s Justin Bogle raced to his second Eastern Regional 250SX Class victory of the season and moved into the points lead heading into the finale. Bogle has a 17-point lead over Kawasaki’s Martin Davalos.
Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin was second, and Honda’s Vince Friese third.
