NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City restaurant owner who is raising her workers’ pay to $10 an hour was praised by President Barack Obama during his weekly national address.

Egyptian immigrant Yasmin Ibrahim told the Daily News (https://nydn.us/1lhZngc ) she was thrilled and honored after hearing her story recounted by the commander in chief Saturday.

She employs 10 workers at her Manhattan restaurant Desi Shack and some make $8 an hour.

Ibrahim says she wrote to Obama after hearing about a Minneapolis pizzeria owner who decided to raise his workers’ pay during Obama’s January State of the Union address.

She says the story inspired her because she knows just how expensive New York can be.

During his address, Obama says Ibrahim’s decision makes good business sense because it will help retain talented workers.
