CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Assemblyman Jim Wheeler underwent a heart procedure Saturday after being hospitalized with chest and arm pains.

According to his campaign manager, the Gardnerville Republican had angioplasty and doctors placed two stents to open his blocked arteries.

Steve Donahue told the Las Vegas Review-Journal (https://bit.ly/1mL44ii ) that the 60-year-old Wheeler didn’t suffer a heart attack as initially reported by some of his legislative colleagues.

He says Wheeler is expected to remain overnight at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City and to be able to start walking his district in a week.

Wheeler is running for re-election to Assembly District 39, which covers Douglas and Storey counties and part of Lyon County.

Wheeler says his wife insisted he go to the hospital Saturday morning after he woke up with chest and arm pains.
