MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minneapolis police have arrested a man who allegedly drove off after hitting and killing a 65-year-old man on a sidewalk.

In a news release, police say a van entered the sidewalk, hit Charles Lord and then dragged him for a short distance. Officers received the call at about 10 p.m. Friday and when they arrived, witnesses were tending to Lord.

Police say the driver ran off and apparently abandoned the van after hitting a nearby building.

Lord, of Minneapolis, was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Minneapolis police say officers arrested the alleged driver at about 11:15 a.m. Saturday. The 32-year-old was being held Saturday at the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center.
