COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - The Diocese of Jefferson City says it bought 29 acres of land in southeast Columbia.
The diocese said Friday the land might someday be used for a new parish or a grade school, but a final decision has not been made.
Diocese spokesman Dan Joyce says the property buy is part of an ongoing process of analyzing whether to build a new parish and school in Columbia.
Joyce would not comment on a possible timeline for making a decision or on how much the diocese paid for the property.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1j061H3 ) diocesan chancellor Sister Kathleen Wegman has said the Columbia parish family enrollment has increased 16 percent between 2002 and 2012.
Bishop John Gaydos will make the final decision on any use of the land.
