ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - A homeless man whose body remained unclaimed after he was found dead in a central Indiana park has been buried at an Anderson cemetery.
Fifty-two-year-old Christopher Cook died April 17 of hypothermia in Pulaski Park in Anderson. But despite having his name, date of birth and Social Security number, authorities couldn’t find anyone to claim his body.
Cook was buried Friday at East Maplewood Cemetery in a funeral paid for by township trustees.
Anderson resident Annie White attended Cook’s funeral even though she didn’t know him. She says it’s sad no one who knew Cook attended his funeral.
Madison County Coroner Marian Dunnichay tells The Herald-Bulletin (https://bit.ly/1inQYaC ) it’s very rare in this digital age to identify a deceased person and not be able to find someone to claim the body.
