SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A couple dozen people rallied in Sioux Falls Friday night to support mothers and fathers who aren’t allowed to see their children.

The group gathered in protest of parent alienation, a situation that often arises after divorces. They say it’s best for children to be able to see both parents.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard signed a bill in March designed to give children more time with divorced parents.

The policy does not establish a presumption of equal parenting, and judges will still have the final say in assigning custody.

South Dakota Shared Parenting has said the bill helps but it doesn’t go far enough.
