JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A former speaker of the Mississippi House and a prominent Republican will help oversee how the city of Jackson spends money generated by a 1 percent sales tax that took effect earlier this year.
The Clarion-Ledger reports (https://on.thec-l.com/1jSOeye ) that former Speaker Tim Ford and Hinds County Republican chairman Pete Perry will serve on a board that will develop a spending plan for improving Jackson’s roads and water and sewer systems.
They join Jackson State University President Carolyn Meyers, Tougaloo College President Beverly Hogan, Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership President/CEO Duane O’Neill and Jackson businessman Godwin Dafe.
Ford, an attorney who served in the Legislature as a Democrat, was appointed by current the current House speaker, Republican Philip Gunn. Perry was appointed by Gov. Phil Bryant.
