FLINT, Mich. (AP) - For the first time in decades, Flint’s water isn’t coming from Detroit.
Officials turned off the valve Friday and tapped a closer source: the Flint River. The Flint Journal (https://bit.ly/1nOrAej ) says it should take another two days for the homegrown water to work through the treatment plant and flow from faucets.
Flint is using the Flint River until a pipeline to Lake Huron is built.
Mayor Dayne Walling says it’s a “historic moment.” As people counted down, Walling pushed a button to make the switch.
The Department of Environmental Quality says consumers shouldn’t notice a difference, although hardness in the Flint River water means it may take more soap to get a good lather.
