CHICAGO (AP) - The attorney who filed a complaint alleging improper hiring in Gov. Pat Quinn’s administration says the office should’ve released documents related to Department of Transportation hiring last year.
Qunn’s office released documents Friday that were referred to in a federal complaint filed this week by attorney Michael Shakman.
Shakman spearheaded a decades-long court case leading to bans on political hiring in the Chicago area. His complaint cites a Better Government Association report that IDOT skirted rules against political hiring in filling hundreds of positions.
Quinn’s spokeswoman says Shakman was offered the documents this week but didn’t take them.
Shakman says he was asked if the lawsuit could be delayed if he was given the documents and he said he didn’t want to wait. He claims the problem goes beyond documents.
