INDIANAPOLIS — Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, Pennsylvania Republican, told a pro-gun crowd Friday that his gift of choice for special occasions is likely different than what most men in the country choose.
Mr. Santorum said at an event at the National Rifle Association’s annual meetings that his wife, Karen, actually owns more guns than he does.
“I don’t know about most men, but, you know, the default gift for most men is to buy flowers on a special occasion,” he said. “For me, the safe bet: ammo. Right? Come on — right?”
He said the gun rights group’s lengthy experience in the battle over the issue is one of the reasons why he became a member.
“In fact, every member of my family is an NRA member,” he said. “Even Bella is an NRA member.”
Mr. Santorum suspended his presidential campaign in the spring of 2012 soon after he took time off to spend time with his youngest daughter Bella, who has a rare, life-threatening genetic disorder.
