WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina Ports Authority is setting up a committee to study its relationship with the state Department of Transportation.

Transportation Secretary Tony Tata suggested the study at the port board meeting Thursday. The committee is expected to have its first meeting next month.

The state’s ports were transferred to the Department of Transportation from the Commerce Department three years ago. Ports’ spokeswoman Laura Blair says the idea of the review is to make sure the current structure best serves the state of North Carolina.
