PAHRUMP, Nev. (AP) - A Nye County sheriff candidate is defending himself after his arrest on suspicion of stealing rival campaign signs.
Assistant Sheriff Rick Marshall, at a news conference Thursday night, acknowledges he pulled “Anybody but Rick Marshall signs” on private property.
But he insists a number of property owners gave him permission to remove the signs from their properties, and he didn’t resist arrest as alleged.
Marshall was arrested by his own deputies Tuesday in Pahrump on charges of possession of stolen property, conspiracy and resisting arrest after a complaint from an “Anybody but Rick Marshall” campaign leader that over 40 campaign signs had been stolen.
Marshall is one of 10 candidates running to replace Sheriff Tony DeMeo, who is retiring after three terms.
Pahrump is 60 miles west of Las Vegas.
