INDIANAPOLIS — National Rifle Association executive vice president and CEO Wayne LaPierre helped kick off the NRA lobbying arm’s leadership forum Friday by delivering a scathing indictment of the national news media and D.C. politicians the media cover.

Political and media “elites,” Mr. LaPierre told thousands gathered at Lucas Oil Stadium, are “lying to us.”

“They lie bills into law,” he said of politicians. “They pass legislation they admit they haven’t even read.”

Mr. LaPierre went on to say that one of country’s greatest threats is a national news media that refuses to give the group a fair shake.

“They have never been honest about the National Rifle Association … they hate us,” he said. “The media’s intentional corruption of the truth is an abomination.”

“We will never — and I mean never — submit and surrender to the national news media — I promise you that,” he told the crowd.
