BUTLER, Mo. (AP) - A nearly 13-acre solar energy farm capable of converting sunlight into enough energy to power about 415 homes is being dedicated in western Missouri after operating nearly two months.
The Butler Solar Energy Farm is the largest solar power plant in Missouri and the first utility-scale solar generating project operating in the state.
Officials with the Missouri Public Utility Alliance were joining Butler officials and the solar farm’s operator Friday morning for a dedication ceremony. The farm started generating power in early March.
More than 10,000 solar panels will generate over 3 megawatts of power to be purchased by the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission, which is part of the alliance. The energy will be used by the 35 member cities of the Missouri Public Energy Pool.
