SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - State officials report that nearly 35,000 New Mexicans have signed up for health insurance through a federal online marketplace since October.
The figures released Friday are based on enrollment information supplied to the state’s insurance regulator by private insurance companies offering health plans through the exchange.
The federal government says 8 million nationally have signed up for insurance coverage.
New Mexico has used a federally operated website to enroll individuals since October, but will switch to a state-based computer system for individuals later this year for the next open enrollment period.
State officials say about 26,400 individuals signed up for plans by the end of March, but enrollment reached almost 35,000 by April 15.
The state-run exchange handled small businesses, and about 560 workers and their dependents enrolled.
