WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - A candidate for a southeastern North Carolina congressional seat is getting help from former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Woody White’s campaign says Huckabee planned to attend fundraisers Friday evening for the 7th District Republican hopeful. The first event was slated in the Brunswick County town of Leland, with a second in Wilmington.

Huckabee is a favorite of social conservatives. The former minister ran for president in 2008 and is considering a similar campaign in 2016. He also hosts a weekend show on the Fox News Channel.

White is a New Hanover County commissioner competing against former state Sen. David Rouzer and Chris Andrade for the GOP nomination next month. Rouzer got fundraising help earlier this year from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

Democratic incumbent Mike McIntyre is not seeking re-election.
