ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - An Aberdeen man who brandished a steak knife in one robbery and a pellet gun in another has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

The American News reports (https://bit.ly/1lNEQP1) 22-year-old Luis Maldonado pleaded guilty this week to the armed robbery of Fresh Credit Auto Sales on March 18. In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors dropped a charge of attempted armed robbery of the Lafayette Casino the same day.

Authorities say Maldonado got away with nearly $2,000 in cash from the auto dealership but left the casino empty-handed when a worker brandished a butcher knife that was bigger than Maldonado’s knife.

Maldonado was sentenced to the prison time, fined $104 and ordered to pay $5,100 restitution in various cases.

Another person charged in the robberies has pleaded not guilty.
