MADISON, S.D. (AP) - Town leaders in Madison aren’t waiting for the U.S. government to move ahead with plans to connect to a new source of water.
City engineer Chad Comes tells the Madison Daily Leader (https://bit.ly/1fvBIn4 ) the South Dakota Legislature appropriated $1 million toward the effort.
He says that money will be repaid when federal funding is approved for the city’s leg of the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System.
Madison’s 6,500 residents couldn’t drink city water for a couple of days in January after a concrete-and-dirt roof collapsed into an underground well that feeds the city’s water towers, which contaminated the water.
