CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - Kraft Foods Group Inc. says it will lay off 60 people in Champaign as part of a plan to cut 285 jobs around the country.

Company spokeswoman Joyce Hodel told The News-Gazette in Champaign (https://bit.ly/1lO4PtS ) on Friday that the jobs are in Kraft’s transport fleet. The Northfield-based company plans to start contracting with outside carriers to haul goods across its network of production plants and distribution centers.

The cuts will be among drivers and fleet support staff.

Hodel said the Champaign employees will lose their jobs between September and the end of year. They were told Thursday.

Kraft’s Champaign plant employs more than 1,000 people. It makes macaroni, mayonnaise and other products.
