Super Bowl XIX ended in a win for Joe Montana and the 49ers over a young Dan Marino, but the Hall of Fame quarterbacks will have one more chance to go head-to-head.
Candlestick Park is having one last game — a flag football game for the ages — between two of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Tickets go on sale May 10, the San Francisco team announced on its website Friday, for the July 12 showdown.
Montana will also have some of the same weapons at his disposal that he had during his playing days; Jerry Rice, Roger Craig and Dwight Clark are scheduled to suit up, the 49ers reported.
“The Comeback Kid,” who was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2000, ended his career with 273 touchdowns, 40,551 passing yards and a quarterback rating of 92.3. Montana’s 92-yard winning drive vs. the Bengals in Super Bowl XXII is considering one of the most memorable of all time.
