MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - The University of Montana has named former National Public Radio correspondent Larry Abramson as the new dean of the School of Journalism.

Abramson was NPR’s national security correspondent and had been reporting for NPR since 1990.

The university said in a statement announcing the hire Wednesday that Abramson will begin July 1.

Professor Denise Dowling has been the school’s interim dean for nearly two years after former dean Peggy Kuhr became the school’s vice president of integrated communications.
