INDIANAPOLIS — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal slammed former New York City Mayor Michael I. Bloomberg on Friday for recent comments suggesting Mr. Bloomberg’s advocacy efforts on issues such as gun control have earned him a place in heaven “if there is a God.”
“Seems to me like this is a guy who could learn some humility,” Mr. Jindal said at an opening event at the NRA’s annual meetings. “And it seems like the NRA can be the first to teach him some humility this November.”
Mr. Bloomberg made the comments to the New York Times when he was announcing plans to spend $50 million on gun control efforts this year.
“I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed,” he said. “I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”
“This wasn’t caught by accident,” Mr. Jindal said of the remarks. “This wasn’t somebody eavesdropping like they did with the president when he accused us of bitterly clinging to our guns and religion. And maybe I’m not smart enough to take that as an insult, because in Louisiana clinging to our gun[s] and religion is actually a good thing and we’re proud of it.
“I’ve said this earlier — I’d rather have the men and women of the NRA than Mayor Bloomberg and his $50 million,” Mr. Jindal continued. “I’d much rather have [the] men and women of the NRA than [Attorney General] Eric Holder. I’d rather have the men and women of the NRA than President Barack Obama.”

Mr. Jindal said at the end of his speech that there is “no amount of money that we’ll sell our God-given rights” for.
“We gotta win this election, but it’s not just about an election — it’s about what kind of America we leave our children and grandchildren,” he said.
