BOSTON (AP) - Award-winning journalist Barbara Walters is heading to western Massachusetts to speak at an annual women’s conference at Bay Path College.

The 84-year-old Boston native is set to address the small private women’s college in Longmeadow on Friday.

Walters is scheduled to share her personal story about her 53-year career in journalism, which will wind down on May 16 when she retires from ABC’s daytime talk show “The View” after 17 years.

Walters is known as the first female co-anchor of a network evening news program and for her career at NBC’s morning “Today Show.”

She has interviewed world figures such as Britain’s first female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, and then-Iraqi President Sadaam Hussein. Walters was the first to interview President George W. Bush and his wife after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
