MANASSAS, Va. (AP) - Prince William County Police say a 9-year-old has been charged with possessing a firearm on school property after bringing a disassembled handgun to school.

Police spokeswoman Kim Chinn says the boy told police that he was being bullied. But Chinn said the boy didn’t threaten anyone with the weapon.

Police say the incident occurred Thursday morning at Ellis Elementary outside Manassas. A student told a teacher about the gun after seeing the boy showing the gun to some of his friends on school property.

Chinn said the gun was fully disassembled and in a carrying case.

Police have also charged an adult acquaintance of the boy with contributing to the delinquency of a minor for not properly securing the gun.
