HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The National Weather Service is warning of a very high fire danger in Connecticut because of gusty winds and dry conditions.
The Weather Service issued a red flag warning Thursday for all of Connecticut, western Massachusetts and other parts of the Northeast. The warning is set to expire Thursday evening.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is urging people at state parks, forests and open spaces to use fires with caution, obey local laws on open fires, carefully dispose of hot charcoal and completely extinguish smoking materials.
The Weather Service says humidity as low as 15 percent and wind gusts of up to 40 mph in the state Thursday are combining to create critical fire conditions.
