NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Police say an elevator repairman found the skeletal remains of a man inside an unoccupied apartment building in the Central City neighborhood.

The body was found Thursday in an elevator shaft of the three-story building on South Claiborne Avenue.

Nearby residents say the building was heavily damaged during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and had been unoccupied since then. Renovation work resumed at the site recently.

Police said the body was badly decomposed and had been at the location for a long time. There were no visible signs of trauma or foul play. An autopsy was planned to determine the cause of death.
