TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Officials at Saguaro National Park have finalized a plan that covers the restoration of native vegetation at the southern Arizona park.

The plan also addresses management actions aimed at mitigating negative effect to park lands from wildfires, floods and invasive species.

Park officials said Wednesday the environmental assessment of the restoration plan was approved by Sue Masica, the director of the National Park Service’s intermountain region.

The park considered public comments and other alternatives before approving the restoration plan.

Among other techniques, the park will be able to use helicopters for restoration treatments at sites that are not accessible by ground crews.

Saguaro National Park straddles the city of Tucson and is home to the nation’s largest cacti.
