BOSTON (AP) - Boston Red Sox right fielder Shane Victorino has been activated from the disabled list and inserted into the lineup for the first time this season.
He batted in his usual second spot against the New York Yankees after missing the first 22 games with a hamstring injury and the flu.
In his first year with Boston in 2013, Victorino batted .294 with 15 homers, 61 RBIs and 21 stolen bases and was an outstanding fielder. In three rehab games this year at Triple-A Pawtucket, Victorino went 1 for 11.
To make room for him on the roster, the Red Sox sent right-handed reliever Alex Wilson to Pawtucket.
