PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A woman is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital after police say her daughter’s ex-boyfriend shot her in the back.
Police are still searching for the man, whom they identified as Francisco Diaz.
They say he shot 54-year-old Theodora Nunez at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say the woman’s daughter, 25-year-old Jessica Nunez, has a child with Diaz.
The shooting happened at Theodora Nunez’s home. Commander Thomas Oates tells WPRI-TV that Diaz told Jessica Nunez that “he wouldn’t hurt her, but would hurt someone in her family.” Then he allegedly fired two shots, striking her mother once.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call police.
