OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A state lawmaker is encouraging Oklahomans to participate in Foster Care Day at the Capitol.

The event is scheduled for May 6 during the observance of National Foster Care Month and will be held on the second floor of the Capitol.

Rep. Pat Ownbey of Ardmore says he is encouraging child welfare workers, foster care advocates, service agencies and others to attend. He says it’s important for resource families to let legislators know the importance of foster care and adoption.

Booths will be set up from various agencies and advocates from around the state.

Participants are being asked to wear blue clothing or a blue ribbon in honor of National Foster Care Month.
