OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma House Speaker Jeff Hickman says one member’s effort to impeach five of the state Supreme Court’s nine justices is a serious charge and won’t be taken lightly.

Hickman issued a statement late Thursday saying Rep. Mike Christian’s resolution seeking impeachment of the justices will be reviewed to “determine if there is merit.”

Christian is a Republican from Oklahoma City and is a former state trooper. He says he was outraged at the court’s 5-4 decision to grant a stay of execution to two death row inmates. He sought articles of impeachment based on “willful neglect of duty and incompetence.”

The court on Wednesday dissolved its stay and allowed the executions to proceed, but Christian says he had no plans to withdraw his resolution.
