MILWAUKEE (AP) - Milwaukee firefighters have taken control of a three-alarm fire at an auto-salvage yard about two miles from the city airport.
The fire was reported Thursday just before noon. The initial indication was that seven propane tanks exploded in a warehouse at the back of Roz Auto Salvage. No injuries were reported.
Homes in the area have been evacuated and a freeway ramp was closed briefly. The fire was brought under control within about two hours, although firefighters were still putting out a number of small fires.
The roof of the building collapsed, and assistant fire Chief Dan Lipski says most of what was inside the building was destroyed. He says a number of cars outside the building were also damaged.
